The Gardens of Cleaning

A new public space of culture in London

This first year project looks at the Brazilian Festival of the Lavagem do Bonfim which occurs every year where Catholics and Pagans come together to clean the ten steps of the church of Bonfim. A new space in Vauxhall is created derived from this festival close to Brazilian and Portuguese communities, taking an underused green patch and transforming into a vibrant, colour and somewhat surreal environment consisting of 10 coloured steps designed around the dimensions of a broom to be cleaned every year but also creating an exciting space of leisure.
