Raphael Iruzun Martins
Dip. AA, ARB

I am a Senior Architect at AECOM having graduated from the Architectural Association in 2018 and registered as an architect in November 2020. I have previously worked at Design Engine Architects, WilkinsonEyre, Arup Foresight + Research + Innovation, Avanti Architects in London and Jaime Lerner Arquitetos Associados in Curitiba, Brazil.

Throughout my studies and professional experience, I have always explored pertinent issues within my projects affecting our cities today including transport, airport capacity, civic space and freedom, housing and declining high streets, offering creative solutions and ideas from new angles combining extensive background research and unconventional and innovative design development.

My interest in Architecture stems from crucial relation between structure and quality of life. Every aspect of design will affect people’s day to day and disrupt multiple social, economic, environmental and political systems at different scales, thus there is great responsibility in any proposal. I believe the key is Balance, proposing ideas and solutions which may be built form or strategic in nature which respond to multiple parties and stakeholders, while being flexible and adaptive to its current and future contexts, allowing change to occur naturally with minimal waste and environmental impact.
